Chapter Twelve

He held her small hand in his as they drove back home.  Sophie was a little nervous about the kiss.  It had been a long time since she had felt such desire for someone. The kiss had been incredible, but now she was a little scared. She wanted him, wanted to be with him all the time. He was the sun and the moon and the stars every time he popped up at her door.  She wasn’t sure that was a good thing.  She’d been down that road before. There had been nothing but pain there.  The physical pain was one thing, but the emotional scars still festered. She had loved Dave. She had believed that he was the most incredible person she’d ever known.  She’d been so wrong. He lied. He cheated. He was abusive, physically and verbally. He’d made her believe that everything that happened was all her fault. That he was the injured party in any argument. That she was the reason he acted the way he did. He betrayed everything she’d ever felt for him. Recovery wasn’t something that she ever thought possible.  She never expected to find herself so taken in again.
Alex wasn’t Dave, not by a long shot, but he was famous and rich and he seemed to get everything he wanted. He was still scary, except when he looked into her eyes.  Then everything else in the world just faded away. That scared her more than anything. She was in trouble. She was falling in love with him. She was giving him the power to hurt her and she barely knew him. She couldn’t help it though. He did everything right. He never treated her like she was damaged, only fragile. He was always so gentle. He seemed to be happy enjoying her company.  How much longer could that last? she wondered.  She glanced over at him watching the road. He was beautiful and charming. He could have anyone he wanted.
The thought troubled her long after they got home. The security system worked just fine. As suggested, they entered without turning it off. It went off and she received a phone call from the service. After giving her password, everything was reset and she was secure. She wasn’t sure she felt secure though.
                “Got games?” he said suddenly.
“You mean like an Xbox or Wii?  No, sorry.”
“How can not have Wii?” he said appalled.
“I don’t know. I just never got around to it. I have played before,” she said defensively.
                He frowned. “Got DVD?”
                “Of course.”
“Watch movie with me?” he asked, plopping down on the couch.
“Okay,” she smiled. The thought of snuggling with him crossed her mind. She pointed to the cabinet under the TV. “I have some action movies under there.”
He jumped up to inspect her collection.  After a few minutes, he settled on a Matt Damon flick, ‘The Bourne Ultimatum’, and popped it in the DVD player.  She poured him a glass of wine left from their picnic and joined him on the couch. He put his arm around her and settled into the couch cushions, propping his feel on the coffee table.  She tucked her feet up under her and snuggled against his shoulder. He was wearing old jeans and one of the famous “Ovechkin” t-shirts. It was very soft. She could feel the firmness of his chest beneath it.  She slid her hand across his stomach embracing him.  He smelled good. There was a soft scent of cologne, but mostly, it was just him.  She nuzzled closer to him and brushed her lips against his neck.
“What you doing?” he glanced at her, a hint of a smile at the corner of his lips.
“You smell good,” she said as if that explained it all.  He ran his fingers through her hair and pulled her to him.  He kissed her softly. Just then an explosion in the movie made her jump. Her mouth smashed against his and she pulled away in pain. He raised his finger to his lips.
“I have fat lip before, but no one that felt so good.”
She laughed at him and brushed his hand away from his mouth and kissed him lightly on his lower lip.
“Better?”
“Better watch movie. I have game tomorrow.”
